18 September 2021 – Christ Church Primary School in Bury planted a wildlife copse with an outdoor learning classroom, hedge and orchard.

Summary of the project

The whole school was involved in planting at the school site.

The Trees for Climate project created a wildlife copse with an outdoor learning classroom, hedge and orchard planted at the school. The planting involved pupils from all years from 4-11 years old.

The project included 1195 total plantings:

  • 890 hedges including: crab apple, holly, beech, rowan, wild cherry, elder, hornbeam, hawthorn
  • 300 wildlife copse including: goat willow, osier, hazel, hawthorn, English oak, silver birch
  • 5 fruit trees

The school were looking to improve their outdoor learning opportunities for the children and wanted to have more biodiversity on site to provide the pupils with something to learn about for educational benefit.

Additionally a hedge was planted to screen a pub and residential gardens adjacent to the school.

The Trees for Climate project resulted in 1195 total plantings! Species planted include: arab apple, holly, beech, rowan, wild cherry, elder, hornbeam, hawthorn, goat willow, osier, hazel, english oak, silver birch and fruit trees too!
